Foraging Fairy

This illustration was made into a tunnel book! Tunnel books are 3D, pop-up images with multiple staggered layers. If you looked in from either side, you should see all parts of each layer as you move.

I wanted to create a relaxed scene, taken from a fairy's daily life. Here, they're foraging for a fantastical berry, while co-existing with these bugs hiding in the grass! I had to adjust the color for web and print separately so the glow effect was still effective across both. The version for web is much darker, since screens can accommodate darker scenes (while print can't). I did still want to keep the fairy the focus of the illustration, so she's the brightest area here. The bugs that can glow are meant to be engaging, not distracting. Putting the emphasis on her prevents this issue. I kept a very limited color palette for this one, but kept a warm feeling so it wouldn't feel hostile looking in.
