Little Bud's First Journey to Fairy-Land
The story of Little Bud follows the character Little Bud, who was adopted into a kind family of birds. She later meets a group of fairies who were banished from Fairy-Land. Little Bud is so moved by their homesickness and sorrow for their homeland that she decides to help the fairies return home. Though sweet and whimsical, their journey was not without struggles. From the bleak, dead winters, to the Fairy Queen Dew-Drop’s requirements of them, Little Bud and the three fairies overcome obstacle after obstacle to return happily home.
This spread is placed at the start of the story. It comes directly after the expositional shot of Little Bud's family, and serves to introduce Little Bud and the three fairies that she meets, and later helps throughout the story. We learn that the fairies were banished from Fairy-Land, and desperately long to return home. Moved by their sadness, Little Bud decides to travel to Fairy-Land herself to beg fairy Queen Dew-Drop for forgiveness so they can return.
There is a small air of mystery in this shot, with Little Bud already mounted on Golden-Wing, looking away as she waves goodbye to her bird family and the fairies. I want the reader to be curious about her and if she will be successful, and I kept the same warmth from the previous spread so we feel the connection to her home that she's currently leaving behind.
