Little Bud's Last Journey to Fairyland
The story of Little Bud follows the character Little Bud, who was adopted into a kind family of birds. She later meets a group of fairies who were banished from Fairy-Land. Little Bud is so moved by their homesickness and sorrow for their homeland that she decides to help the fairies return home. Though sweet and whimsical, their journey was not without struggles. From the bleak, dead winters, to the Fairy Queen Dew-Drop’s requirements of them, Little Bud and the three fairies overcome obstacle after obstacle to return happily home.
This spread is placed very close to the end of the story, after the three fairies finally redeem themselves and start to perform good deeds again just for the sake of them- not only just to fulfill the conditions to return home. They are about to speak to Queen Dew-Drop for the final time, to see if she will accept them home or if they will be turned away again.
I wanted this spread to feel a little suspenseful. I chose to go dark and dramatic, showing our main characters interacting likely for the last time before they enter Fairy-Land. This is also our first look at the gate to Fairy-Land. I wanted this spread to feel natural, beautiful, and immersive, since the fairies' goal for the duration of the story has been to return here. It was a very desirable place for them to be- and I wanted us to feel that too.
